Food For Thought
Remember, a three legged dog still has three good legs to lose.
Literature
food for thought we won't eat
i can't make you love me.
they say I'm guilty,
the rape of persephone
too distant to be seen, is
a gravestone thumbed flat.
if my heart is an album, every song
features you,
an embroidery of spirit,
science and faith.
you are not a boy to make poetry for
but when it rains
I want to wake up,
and not be alone--
the poet's demise,
the chalkboard and a jar
of not-quite-nothing.
Literature
the last four years
I tried to read between your lines
when you didn't know how to be subversive.
I wasn't socialized like this;
honesty isn't in the nature of my storytelling,
reality blurred into concepts and
spit back in too many words,
so I'm sorry I misunderstood
everything about you,
and I'm sorry it took me this long
to explain.
Literature
leftovers
the worst is
when you're broken
and your body just keeps
trying to put you back
together again
and there are shards
of your heart
where your tongue should be
they catch at your cheeks
and leave your chest hollow
but somehow still manage to bleed
and there's soul
dripping from your fingertips
like an IV
feeding the empty veins of all that you touch
until you've withered into
nothing but paper skin and splintery bones
the worst is when
your mind already knows
you're defected
but the rest of you
can't seem to catch up.

Moral of the story? Be grateful you still have those 3 legs, you could always be without all of them. Look at what you have, not at what you don't.

Your short pieces are so meaningful.
And yes, I agree. We get so prone to looking at all the things people have that we don't, we forget about what we have. And the funny/sad thing is, we'd be surprised how many others would envy us for just that much.
