Void

Hollow eyes,

The windows are closed.

The divine spark is no more,

Spirit is replaced with space.

Here we can’t breathe,

And we can’t speak,

Not even an exorcism

Can preserve a personage,

When their souls leave them.

No pupils and lack of an iris,

Shows that they can no longer hide it,

The eye can let not light in.

There will be no light to save them.

There will be no breath for the dead,

It has already escaped them.

Entrapped in the void.

It was staring at me, from the window. Its eyes never wavering from meeting mine. Its mouth was just a wide jagged line of sharp teeth frozen into a lip-less smile. Its long claws curved and filthy with something awful. There was something staining the window, the street light outside illuminating chunks and making the dripping lines glow. dear sarah, yesterday I tried to swallow the sun. it burned me up on the inside until even my skin was hot to the touch, and I thought of you. 'nothing' is a raptor

*** Listen to me read this piece: When I tell you "it's nothing" you usually hear: the clouds are dark and rough like elephant skin and I'm caught up in the folds of an ear, tangled and desperate for relief but unsure how to flip myself an escape. You usually hear: the world is still turning on its axis and I am left breathless, breaking.... broken in more ways than I can count on my hands, broken in more ways than I can put a name to, broken in more ways than I can ever explain.
