true love waits
in haunted attics
that crest their way
into the warped corners
of my mind,
a sheet of adoration
and sadness crystallizing.
etching slowly
into the drumming doldrums
that weigh like confessions,
i tuck myself into this space
of my thoughts
and let my skin
find its film as scenes
of discovery fade
down that slippery
slope.
fetal, fatal fear
of everything that was you
because you are exactly
what i wanted, exactly
what i needed,
and i couldn't have you.
in a cocoon holding
love to my chest
and away from
your kind eyes
and heart-melting smile,
you are the one force
i could not deny.
the air, that i let slip
into quiet drafts
never published,
was the same one
you carried in a jar
spiraling and recoiling
against the glass
before it breaks free.
shed demons being swept
and cascaded loose,
ripped apart, and blown away
as you have rattled my cage.
and there you were,
smiling.
and i was weightless.

Silver Lining Symphony
Remember
how summer sings
quietly in your ears;
when your
stray heart
stutters
hold it and wait,
for your cold hands
are meant to hide
the fire within.
Listen,
every symphony,
every beautiful thing
is made
of pauses
and broken pieces;
diamonds do not reflect
the light
until they are cut.
Remember
how the sun filters
through cracked clouds
after a storm;
when the rain
gently kisses your palms,
forgive the scars
for what has been.
Listen
and always
remember,
far beyond this pain
there are
luminous adventures,
thriving,
in the wake
of your
resilience.

Little olive frog
Huddles scared in my garage;
The world is too big.

A touch of Heaven:
A raindrop, gentle and small,
Makes me smaller still.

Gruff exterior.

I envy spiders;
Eight legs and naught to do.
I'm juggling torches.

Winter drains the oak,
And even its stubborn leaves
Tumble to the earth.

Unreliable Poet
I confess I don't remember
Whether you wore your hair down
Or tied it back into a sort-of pony tail;
Whether your dress was red with black spots
Or black with red spots,
Or something else entirely.
But I perfectly recall your smile,
Like Spring’s first sunshine
Whose warmth lingers even now.
I may have already forgotten,
The cadence with which you spoke
Your intonation and inflection;
The questions you asked me
And the answers I found
Down amongst the butterflies.
But I know that your voice
Was an unchained symphony
Was angelsong
A spell of sweet restlessness.
I cannot fo
