Sensei
The air has shifted courses,
It swayed away,
Leading us a way’s away,
From our expected destination.
But now we find ourselves
Back together again.
Our winds, combining once more,
Gliding around the each other’s waves.
Our movements natural and smooth, of course.
Reminiscent of when we first spoke,
Nearly two years ago in May.
Remember the lines?
When the weather began to get cooler
Our bond seemed to get stronger
It’s reversed directions,
Because we got stronger
As we begin to near the end of winter,
And into the beauty of spring.
Where we put each other under our wings
And just caught up with each other
As we exchanged thoughts and ideas
Like leaves on trees.
Those words still hold true,
As you were there for me,
When I was desperately in need.
I remember when I first wrote You + Me
I was a novice with the art of poetry,
But I wanted to do something special for your 18th,
And now I sit her presenting to you,
What I’ve come up with for your 19th.
Nearly two years later, things have changed,
Besides the fact that we’ve both gotten older.
I know I’ve gotten starker,
But less introverted
And far more open.
And you’ve become wiser,
More expressive,
And even more wonderful
Than I last remembered you.
And even when the winds,
Found a way to separate us from one another,
We still arrived back with each other.
As brother and sister
And you know what?
We may be the greatest tag team ever assembled,
Because You + Me are dreamers.
And leaders of them.
And even when I became the chrome antennae,
I never stopped being Mr Sarcastic Beast,
And it still applies to me,
Even if I’m not as smart-alecky as I used to be.
And it will always be one of the monikers,
I take the most pride in
Because it was given to me by my big sister,
And my best and oldest friend.
Not to mention, my Sensei.
Kelsy, when the unpredictable winds
Carry us along different gusts of air,
I know that we’ll always cross paths again,
And return to another.
As not only is it the way of Libra and Aquarius,
But MrSarcasticBeast and Sensei Kelsinator.
My best friend and big sister.
Whose passion is still the same as I met her,
Her fight and will,
An inspiration,
Her kindness
And compassion,
Admirable.
One of the greatest women I know.
I’m elated you've stuck with me,
That you've shown me loyalty
And that we're family.
That is how we shall always be.
Happy 19th birthday, my friend.
I hope for nothing but the greatest for my sister.
I love you so much, Kelsy.
I love you so much, Kelsy.

Over Steeped
Uninvited, the past will loosen
the bow tie around his neck
and seat himself
at the head of your dining room table,
sharp elbows digging grooves
into the hardwood.
You'll live your days around him,
letting dust creep
into the harsh haunches of his shoulders
like snow piles up in the drive
on cold Sunday mornings.
You'll forget he's settled there--
stone-still and haunt-heavy
with the things you try your best
to sweep under the rug,
to pack neat and tidy away--
until he shifts;
a tuck of elbow,
a lift of eyebrow,
a twitch of finger.
On that day,
pull out your best China
and invite him to tea--
over steeped
and gulped quickly,

Here's the birthday poem for one of my best friends, SpriteBlayde. This girl is simply amazing and I love her. She's the first person I ever wrote a poem (And her first birthday poem was the first piece I've written, period.) for and I hope she has a similar to reaction to this one, as she did the first. She's simply the best. My wonderful friend, sister, and Sensei.
I love you, Kels'. Never forget that.
Here's the first piece that I've ever written (My first birthday poem for her.):
Gift: You + Me
Back in May of 2012
I was going through a really tough time
I was losing some people whom I thought were really good friends of mine
But as time went on I realized I was wrong
Feeling lonely and melancholy I felt as though I had no one to lean on
But come the middle of May and that very fateful day
You and I began to talk
And I think I even felt it back then
That you and I were meant to be good friends
And towards the end of May I’m saying to myself,
“Man, this person’s really cool!”
I often wondered if you thought the same thing too
And don’t laugh when I say this
But I began to believe
This was payback for all of the bad friendships I’ve had to go through
Then June arrives
About a month in, that’s when I expec
